INFORMATION

Details of  The Pipe Reducer

Butt weld steel pipe reducers are pipe fittings with two ports of different diameters. They can be used to connect pipes of different diameters by welding, providing a smooth transition for fluid flow. This reduces resistance and pressure loss, and helps to maintain efficient operation of the pipeline system.
Butt weld steel pipe reducers also allow for a flexible layout of the pipeline system in a limited space, providing convenience for smooth operation and layout adjustments.

Our reducers are commonly used with our Seamless Steel Pipes and ASME B16.5 Flanges.

Concentric vs. Eccentric Reducers

We provide both:

  • Concentric Reducers: Designed to join pipe sections on the same center line. These are ideal for vertical piping to prevent turbulence and for general fluid transport.
  • Eccentric Reducers: Feature one flat side, allowing the center line of the pipes to be offset. These are vital for horizontal piping to prevent air pockets (in suction lines) or to facilitate liquid drainage.

Material Grades

We manufacture and export concentric reducers in certified materials to match your connecting pipes.

Carbon Steel (High Demand):

ASTM A234 WPB: The industry standard for moderate/high-temperature service. Widely used in pressure piping.

ASTM A420 WPL6: Impact-tested carbon steel for low-temperature applications (e.g., cryogenic systems).

Stainless Steel:

ASTM A403 WP304/304L: Standard corrosion resistance.

ASTM A403 WP316/316L: Enhanced resistance to chlorides and acids.

Alloy Steel:

ASTM A234 WP5, WP9, WP11, WP22, WP91: For high-pressure power generation and steam lines

Quality Control & Testing Protocols

To guarantee zero-defect delivery, each reducer undergoes:

  1. Dimensional Verification: Checking OD, ID, and Face-to-Face dimensions against B16.9 tolerances.
  2. NDT Inspection: Ultrasonic (UT) and Magnetic Particle (MPI) testing to ensure no cracks or inclusions in the transition area.
  3. Positive Material Identification (PMI): Verifying alloy and stainless steel grades before shipment.
  4. Third-Party Inspection: We welcome inspections from SGS, BV, TUV, and Intertek.

Packaging & Global Logistics

We understand the importance of receiving products in pristine condition:

  • Protection: Plastic end caps protect the bevels from transit damage.
  • Packing: Securely packed in seaworthy plywood cases or pallets.
  • Marking: Clear, durable heat-number and size stamping for easy warehouse identification.

FAQ:

Q: How do I properly order a butt weld reducer?
A: You must specify both end sizes (e.g., 4″ x 2″), the schedule (wall thickness) for each end, and the type (concentric or eccentric).
Q: What are the key standards?
A: Butt weld fittings are typically manufactured according to ASME B16.9, which standardizes their dimensions and tolerances.
Q: What is the benefit of butt welding?
A: Welded joints provide higher strength and better leak resistance compared to threaded or flanged connections, while also offering a more compact layout.
