What is a Steel Pipe Bend?

A steel pipe bend is a pipe bend used to change the pipeline direction. Common use radius bends are 3D bends and 5D bends. It is similar to a pipe elbow, but a pipe bend is longer than an elbow and is usually manufactured for specific needs.

Distinguishing between a Bend and an Elbow:

  • Pipe Bend: When the bending radius (R) is more than 2 times D (Diameter). Examples include 3D, 5D, 6D, and 8D bends.
  • Pipe Elbow: When the bending radius (R) is 1D or 1.5D. (Short Radius 1D and Long Radius 1.5D).

3D vs. 5D Bends: Choosing the Right Geometry
