Product

INFORMATION

A buttweld eccentric reducer is a type of pipe fitting used to connect two pipes of different diameters while maintaining the same bottom line. Unlike concentric reducers, which are symmetrical, an eccentric reducer has an edge parallel to the connecting pipe, making it ideal for applications where air pockets or drainage are concerned.

This fitting is widely used in oil and gas, petrochemical, power generation, and water treatment industries, ensuring smooth flow transition and minimal turbulence in horizontal piping systems.

Product Types:

Concentric reducer: Centerline remains consistent. This type of reducer is used when the fluid flow is relatively uniform and the pressure drop across the transition is minimized.

Eccentric reducer: One side is flat (used to maintain bottom/top alignment in horizontal piping), which helps maintain uniform flow and prevents cavitation, making it an ideal choice for systems using a constant flow rate or gravity feed.

Material Grades Available

Choosing the right material is critical for system longevity. We stock and manufacture reducers in various grades:

  • Carbon Steel (Most Popular):

ASTM A234 WPB: The standard for moderate to high-temperature service. Our A234 WPB eccentric reducers are widely used in oil, gas, and power generation.

              ASTM A420 WPL6: For low-temperature services.

  • Stainless Steel:

ASTM A403 WP304/304L, WP316/316L: Excellent corrosion resistance for chemical processing and water treatment.

  • Alloy Steel:

              ASTM A234 WP11, WP22, WP5, WP91: High-pressure and high-temperature performance.

  • Duplex Steel:

              ASTM A815 UNS S31803, S32205.

Applications:

Buttweld steel pipe reducers are used to connect pipes with different diameters in the horizontal plane.
They help redirect the flow of the working medium or prevent stagnation of liquid or gas.
Used in various industries: oil, chemical, gas, energy, and municipal utilities.
Oil and gas: connecting pipes of different diameters to facilitate the flow of oil, gas, and other fluids.
Petrochemical industry: reducing pipe size in chemical processes that require precise control of fluid or gas flow.
Water treatment plants: ensuring transitions between pipes of different sizes to facilitate undisturbed water flow.
Power generation: In power plants where steam, water, and gas flow through pipes, reducers help regulate flow rates and prevent system damage.
HVAC systems: In heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, reducers help connect pipes of different diameters, optimizing air and fluid flow.

Why Choose Our Butt Weld Eccentric Reducers?

1. Optimized for Pump Suction

Unlike concentric reducers, our eccentric design features a flat side (“flat bottom” or “flat top”). When installed with the flat side up in horizontal lines, it prevents the accumulation of air bubbles, effectively eliminating the risk of cavitation that can damage expensive pumps.

2. Robust Leak-Proof Connections

The butt weld connection offers a permanent, leak-proof bond that is stronger than the pipe itself. This ensures structural integrity under high pressure and vibration, complying with ASME B16.9 dimensions strictly.

3. Precision Beveling

Every fitting comes with machine-beveled ends (per ASME B16.25). This ensures easy field welding and faster installation, reducing labor costs on your job site.

4. Rigorous Quality Testing

We don’t just sell fittings; we verify them.
Hydrostatic testing (verified via raw material).
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): UT, RT, and MT available.
PMI (Positive Material Identification) to guarantee material grade accuracy (e.g., verifying 316L vs. 304).

FAQ: Concentric vs. Eccentric Reducers

Q: When should I use an Eccentric Reducer instead of a Concentric one?
A: You should use an eccentric reducer in horizontal piping systems, specifically at the suction side of pumps. The eccentric shape allows the bottom of the pipe to remain level (or the top, depending on installation), preventing air traps. Concentric reducers are typically used in vertical piping lines.

Q: Do you supply seamless eccentric reducers?
A: Yes. We supply seamless eccentric reducers for sizes typically up to 24 inches. For larger diameters (above 24 inches), we generally provide welded pipe reducers, X-ray tested to ensure weld integrity.
